Wisdom Teeth Gilbert, AZ

What are Wisdom teeth?

The last molars on each side of the jaws are what we call wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are also the last teeth to erupt, usually when a person is between the sages on 16 and 20.

Often times, there is not enough room in your mouth to accommodate for wisdom teeth. This is because they are the last permanent molars in the mouth to emerge, or erupt. When there is no room for wisdom teeth in the mouth, it leads to the teeth being impacted. If wisdom teeth are impacted, swelling or tenderness may occur because teeth are trapped beneath the gum tissue by other teeth or bone.

Painful crowding and disease can come from wisdom teeth that only partially emerge or come in crooked. Teeth that are removed before the age of 20 are less developed and roots have fewer complications. The American Dental Association recommends that people between age 16 and 19 have their wisdom teeth evaluated to see if they need to be removed because at age 20 the third molars could be more developed and be harder to remove.
