Teeth Experiencing Sensitivity

In sensitive teeth, the dentin – mineralized layer under enamel- is exposed. Dentin is softer than enamel and contains thousands of tiny tubes which lead right down into the nerve. Triggers like cold drinks send signals down these tubes to stimulate the nerve, causing pain.  Many people relate dental sensitivity to some degree and the causes can typically start from brushing too hard, which wears away gum tissue and exposes the root surface.  The first step in helping alleviate sensitivity is to use toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth, like Sensodyne or Cologate for Sensitive teeth. It is also helpful to use a mouth rinse with high fluoride content, like ACT or Listerine with Fluoride. In some cases the dentist will write a prescription for a specific toothpaste or rinse.

If you are experiencing teeth sensitivity, we would love to see you here at Power Ranch Dental and try and help. Give us a call at (480) 988- 2282 today!
