How To: Flossing with Braces // Gilbert, AZ

Having braces means that you must floss underneath the brackets. This can be very tricky and hard to get used to. Once the floss is under the wire, you will needs to use proper flossing techniques to ensure that you’re effectively removing plaque. Start with a piece of floss that is long enough for you to wrap around both middle fingers, while giving yourself an inch or two to sneak in between two teeth.

  • Slide the floss between your teeth, making a C-shape to access the base of the tooth.
  • Use up-and-down motions, and keep the floss tight against the tooth.
  • After you’re finished with the side of one tooth, switch to the adjacent tooth and repeat.
  • Gently slide the floss out from between the teeth.
