How are teeth removed?
Before a tooth is removed, your dentist will thoroughly review past medical and dental history. They will also take appropriate x-rays that will reveal the length, shape and position of tooth and its surrounding bone. Using this information, your dentist can estimate the degree of difficulty of the procedure and decide whether to refer you to specialist called an oral surgeon. Prior to removal, the area around you tooth will be anesthetized using local anesthetic so the area is numb where the tooth will be removed. If the extraction is simple, once the area is numb the tooth is loosened with an elevator then extracted with a forceps. Your dentists may also smoth and recontour the underlying bone.
